An enhancement in data transmission in biomedical implantable microsystems: Uni-pulse harmonic modulation

An enhancement in data transmission in biomedical implantable microsystems: Uni-pulse harmonic modulation To have the desired performance, the neural recording Microsystems must be able to transmit the recorded data out of the body with the highest data transmission rate and the least bit error possible. For data transmission from the biomedical implanted Microsystems out of the body using the Pulse Harmonic Modulation, two narrow pulses with the appropriate timing are employed so as to reduce the intersymbol interference and increase the data transmission rate. In the structure proposed in this paper, instead of generating two narrow pulses, one wider pulse is employed, in such a way that the oscillations are generated corresponding to the positive edge and damped corresponding to the negative edge. The possibility of 33.3 Mbps data transmission rate and decrease in power consumption and chip area are amongst the advantages of this method. Moreover, in the newly presented method, Data Rate to Carrier Frequency (DRCF) Ratio is increased from 30 percent in the previous literature to 50 percent. This structure is simulated in 0.18 μm technology using ADS software.
