Service Centric Markov Based Spectrum Sharing for Internet of Things (IoT)

Service Centric Markov Based Spectrum Sharing for Internet of Things (IoT) Internet of Things (IoT) encompasses large number of devices interconnected through internet to provide wide range of services covering industrial and commercial applications. Heterogeneous, sporadic communication demands from IoT devices make it difficult to satisfy the dynamic Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of the service centric IoT. Understanding the nature of traffic for IoTnetworks is essential to achieve efficient spectrum sharing for which, service based Continuous-Time Markov Chain (CTMC) traffic modeling is proposed in this paper. Optimal spectrum access probabilities are derived for different classes of services to coordinate the spectrum sharing framework for IoT. Finally, a centralized scheduler with service prioritized queuing system is introduced. Proposed scheme is compared with Mixed Critical Scheduling and Max-Min methods. Simulation results show improved spectrum utilization and reduced queuing delay than the mixed critical scheduling method while maintaining fairness compared to Max-Min.
