Rhombic CSRR based dual band antenna for wireless applications

Rhombic CSRR based dual band antenna for wireless applications This paper proposes a dual band antenna by etching Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR) from the ground plane of a Microstrip Patch Antenna (MPA). A circular MPA was designed to resonate at 5.8 GHz. A second resonance at 2.48 GHz was achieved by removing a rhombic CSRR from the ground plane. This antenna operating at 2.48 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands can be used for WLAN applications. The frequency range of WLAN is 2.4-2.5 GHz and 5.725-5.875 GHz. The CSRR was further modified to achieve the second resonance at 1.9 GHz. The modified antenna can be used inGSM 1900 whose frequency range is 1.85-1.91 GHz. By introducing CSRR, miniaturization has been achieved by 56% and 72% at 2.48 GHz and 1.9 GHz respectively compared to conventional microstrip antennas. The simulations of designed antenna were done using the High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS).
